L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival
"DRESS FOR ADVENTURE"
February 26 - March 11

As part of the Cultural Program of the L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival young artists Mischa Baka and Rachel Ang take over the Kids in Berlin window to create DRESSED FOR ADVENTURE. Light-boxes illuminate the figures of youth immersed in a world where clothing both indicates and instigates the possibilities of adventure, fantasy and change. Subtle manipulation of light, time and fabric, creates an experience which is simultaneously tactile, childlike, weightless and semi-erotic. Fragments of their stories and dreams appear in three video pieces hidden within the confines of the store, waiting to be discovered and experienced.

"Inspiration came from the moments clothes help us feel grown up or changed, such as wearing a new dress for a school dance, trying on your parents’ clothes or assuming a different persona with a costume. A red bow tie that I have kept easily transports me back to the excitement I felt in anticipation of dancing with girls for the first time. The bowtie became a license to dance and look at girls without feeling awkward; the irony being that I probably looked sillier for wearing it. Our short video fragments try to capture these moments."
